Skoda Kamiq, Scala to offer wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto

Skoda has officially launched its latest infotainment software with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, debuting in the all-new Kamiq crossover and related Scala hatchback. Dubbed 'Wireless Smart Link', the feature "makes for even more convenient use of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto" by allowing compatible smartphones to use the mirroring features through a bluetooth connection, rather than a USB cable.

Apple cuts 200 people from autonomous car project

Sources have told CNBC over 200 people have been fired this week from Apple's Project Titan group. A spokesperson for the tech company confirmed the layoffs to the business news channel. The person added "as the team focuses their work on several key areas for 2019" some groups have been moved to other areas within the company, such as machine learning.

UPDATE: Mazda has today issued a press release that confirms this story, including the price of $494.98, for the retrofit installation of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into all models equipped with the MZD Connect infotainment system. The upgrade is available now, and all new MZD Connect-equipped models entering Australia will have the two platforms installed as standard. If you are buying a brand-new Mazda, we recommend you confirm with the dealer that CarPlay and Android will be included.

Apple asks California to withhold autonomous testing information from public

Technology giant Apple has submitted a request to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) asking that less information about autonomous vehicle testing being included in publicly-accessible reports - according to online blog MacRumours. Currently, it's a requirement for companies like Apple to publicly share details of its driverless vehicle testing processes, which goes against the company's usual process of keeping software and hardware developments a secret prior to release.
