Fiat Chrysler and Renault in talks to revive merger - report

High-level discussions are reportedly taking place between Renault and Fiat Chrysler (FCA) aimed at reviving the merger between the two companies, and gaining the approval of Nissan, Renault's alliance partner. Three sources have told Reuters John Elkann, chairman of FCA, has had talks with Jean-Dominique Senard, Renault's chairman, and Thierry Bollore, the French automaker's CEO, about bringing the proposed merger between the two companies back to life.

With EU emissions regulations tightening up in the next few years, some automakers have begun to embrace partial or full electrification as a way of avoid hefty fines. Although Fiat Chrysler (FCA) has announced plans to launch make Maserati a largely electric brand, add plug-in hybrids to its Jeep range, and make the next-generation Fiat 500 fully electric, none of these moves will help much in the short term.

Abarth 595, 124 Spider 70th Anniversary editions unveiled in Europe

Abarth is marking its 70th birthday, at least in Europe, with special badging standard across the entire range. At the launch event at the Monte Carlo rally, the company said these badges will make all vehicles registered this year "unique and exclusive". As far as the 124 Spider goes, the specially-designed badge seems to be the only change of note.

Fiat Australia has decided it's time to celebrate Carlo Abarth, the man behind the Abarth name and scorpion badge, with a limited-run version of the 124 Spider. Dubbed the 124 Spider Monza Special Edition, just 30 examples of the limited-run drop-top will be brought to Australia, priced in June from $46,950 drive-away in manual guise, or $48,950 drive-away with an automatic.

Fiat Chrysler to kill diesel by 2022 - Report

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will end production of its diesel vehicles by 2022, telling the Financial Times a lack of demand and high costs are behind the decision. According to the report, people "familiar with the [diesel] strategy" say the company will announce decision as part of a four-year plan, set to be fully revealed on June 1.
