Mazda CX-3 baby SUV confirmed at last

The Mazda CX-3 will make its debut at November’s 2014 Los Angeles auto show, two and a half years after CarAdvice revealed the plan for the baby SUV in a world exclusive. Mazda hasn’t yet released any details on the CX-3, which is expected in Australia in the second half of 2015. It will be based heavily on the Mazda 2 city car – sharing its Skyactiv platform, engines and more.

Land Rover considering baby SUV for expanded Discovery 'family'

The Land Rover Discovery family of vehicles will grow to include at least three variants, and the British brand has highlighted the potential for an all-new compact entry model. Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern insisted the brand’s leisure-focused family of vehicles would grow beyond the current mid-sized Discovery Sport (which will replace Freelander 2 next year) and the larger Discovery.

Fiat to expand Abarth with speedy 500X

Fiat will increase its presence in the performance arena through its Abarth sub-brand, with the Italian company suggesting the new Fiat 500X model will spawn a go-fast variant. Fiat head of European design Roberto Giolito told CarAdvice that Abarth cannot be limited only to the 500 hatchback with its 595 derivatives. “The Abarth vision is not only based on 500s. So there’s more to come,” Giolito said at the 2014 Paris motor show.

Mitsubishi Lancer : New small car still "three or four years" away, if it gets green light at all

The ageing Mitsubishi Lancer could be forced to fight on beyond a decade of production, with the company’s boss admitting a successor will not arrive until 2017 or 2018, if at all. Mitsubishi Motors president Osamu Masuko told CarAdvice it would take the Japanese car maker “about three or four years” to ready a replacement for the current Lancer, though once again stopped short of confirming an all-new generation of the long-serving and historically popular nameplate.
