Bushfire road closures: everything you need to know

Thousands of homes have been destroyed, 24 lives lost (at time of publishing) and millions of wildlife killed amid Australia's worst-ever bushfires, which have also seen holidaymakers and home owners stranded as a result of extensive road closures. Over six-million hectares of land have been destroyed by blazes across New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia, Tasmania and the ACT, many of them affecting popular tourist areas and rural hubs.

Kia the only brand inside the Top 10 to post a sales increase in 2019

Hyundai’s sister brand Kia was the only brand inside the Top 10 to report sales growth in 2019 – the slowest new-car market since 2011 – after posting its fifth record result in a row and tripling its sales in 10 years. Kia wasn’t even in the Top 10 until 2004 and 2005 – when it scraped into 10th place – when the Korean cars were imported by an independent distributor.

Audi introducing RS-badged PHEVs and EVs, resurrected R8 e-tron

Audi Sport is embracing electrification, planning a range of plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles wearing S and RS badges. Autocar reports the upcoming battery-electric e-tron GT will follow Audi’s traditional model structure by offering regular, S and RS models. The e-tron Sportback may also follow suit, according to Audi design boss Andreas Mindt. A fettled version of the regular e-tron SUV has already been spied testing at the Nürburgring.

Tesla delivers first Chinese-made Model 3s

Tesla has delivered the first cars from its new factory in Shanghai, China, less than 12 months after breaking ground on the site. The first 15 examples of the Chinese-built Model 3 were handed over to Tesla employees on December 30, according to The New York Times, with one employee proposing to his girlfriend at the event. The only difference between cars built in Shanghai and those assembled in California is the badge, which is Chinese.
