Top 10 strangest car names of 2021

There's a lot of science involved in choosing a new car name. Some manufacturers employ external brand companies, while others take inspiration from within. For example, the Ford Taurus was named by two of the company's executives – after their wives' star signs. We've seen some doozies in the past. Who could forget when Mazda brought out the 'Titan Dump', or when Subaru named its Brumby ute the 'Brat' in the US? You have to wonder where these manufacturers got their inspiration from.

EXCLUSIVE: Brabham Automotive confirms all-new Australian-built supercar for the road

EXCLUSIVE Car manufacturing is set to return to Australia with one of the most iconic names in motorsport. A top-secret road-going supercar – to rival the likes of Ferrari, McLaren, and Lamborghini – is currently being developed by local manufacturer Brabham Automotive. “We will be releasing a new road vehicle ... [and] our intention is for that vehicle to be built in Australia," the company's CEO, Dan Marks, revealed to CarAdvice.

Great Wall sub-brand Ora to unveil Volkswagen Beetle-inspired electric car – UPDATE: Punk Cat revealed in full

UPDATE, 20 April 2021: The Beetle-inspired Ora electric car was revealed in full last night at the Shanghai motor show. The newest images – courtesy of Autocar – confirm the vehicle’s four-seat layout, reveal a flower-studded interior, and show off a two-tone green and white colour scheme for the first time. It appears the car also boasts dual screens, in the form of a circular digital cluster behind the steering wheel and a centre console-mounted infotainment interface.

Toyota: Why every car on the planet can’t switch to electric power

The world’s biggest car maker, Toyota, has warned against the push to switch every car on the planet to electric power – because it would simply shift the problem from tailpipes to power stations. A day after Toyota unveiled its first pure-electric car – the BZ4X, a Toyota RAV4-sized SUV due in overseas showrooms in 2022 and in Australia soon after – the company has warned some sections of the community need to be careful what they wish for when chasing a pure-electric dream.
