As the battle for compact SUVs rages on, both Ford and General Motors are hard at work on the next best thing. Whilst Ford is basing its compact SUV on the Fiesta platform, General Motors is basing theirs on the Chevrolet Sonic (we call it a Holden Barina) platform.
The idea is to create a compact SUV to compliment the Captiva for those looking for something a little smaller. It will go head to head with the likes of the Suzuki SX4 and Mitsubishi ASX.
Little is known about the upcoming SUV but we do expect that it will come in front and four-wheel drive versions. Both diesel and petrol engines are likely to be on offer.
The new compact SUV was born in GM's Korean R&D centre, and should go on sale by the end of 2012.
