2011 Hyundai Veloster image reveals three passenger doors

It’s official: the 2011 Hyundai Veloster sports coupe will have four doors, but they’re not exactly where you might expect them to be.

Following the release of a teaser video late last month, Hyundai has released another even more revealing shot of the new hot hatch ahead of its world premiere at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The latest image reveals a vehicle with three front-hinged doors – two on the passenger side, one on the driver’s side (in left-hand drive configuration) – and a standard hatch at the rear.

The asymmetrical design is reminiscent of the MINI Clubman, and given that vehicle’s relative acceptance in the market, it is likely the Veloster will keep the single rear passenger door when it enters production, expected to be later this year.

The rear hatch features a split-glass configuration similar to the Honda Insight, which is likely to compromise rear visibility.

It is understood the Veloster will be powered by a 1.6-litre direct-injection petrol engine and feature a dual-clutch transmission, combined cycle fuel consumption of around 5.9 litres/100km and include Bluetooth connectivity.

After one of the great drip-feed unveiling campaigns, the speculation will finally end next week when the highly anticipated 2011 Hyundai Veloster takes the stand at Detroit on Monday.
