Tesla owner creates V8 sound for his car – and it’s awesome

Dude, this is so cool – is what we imagine some people might say when they hear this Tesla that sounds like a Hellcat V8.

A Tesla owner in the US has added V8 sound to his electric car and the result needs to be heard to be believed.

Brooks Weisblat – who is also a bit of a YouTube sensation thanks to his collection of fast-car videos on his DragTimes channel – has demonstrated how easy it is to upload the sound of a hardcore V8 and then pump the sound through the vehicle’s external speakers.

However, this is no ordinary Tesla and the soundtrack is no ordinary V8.

The Tesla Model S Plaid is the quickest car to date from the US electric vehicle specialist, and the recorded sound is the supercharged V8 from the epic Dodge Hellcat model family, themselves some of the fastest and most powerful petrol cars on the planet.

Tesla began fitting hidden external speakers to its cars from September 2019 to meet requirements in certain markets for electric vehicles to emit noise.

The external sounds are designed to alert visually impaired people, so they are not spooked by silent slow-moving electric vehicles in car parks and other pedestrian areas.

However, Tesla went one step further and opened up the technology to allow owners to upload up to five of their own soundtracks.

As Brooks Weisblat explains in his video: “You can actually load a USB drive … then you simply bring up your boom box … there’s a driving sound option (pumped through) speakers on the outside of the car.”

He also adds: “You can replace the sounds with whatever you want: Lamborghini sound, Ford GT …,” before the video trails off.
