Porsche 928 from ‘Risky Business’ up for auction

The car that supported Tom Cruise's breakthrough role is looking for a new owner.

American specialty vehicle auction house Barrett-Jackson has catalogued for sale a Porsche 928 used in the making of the Hollywood movie 'Risky Business'.

Set to go under the hammer at Barrett-Jackson's inaugural event in Houston on September 16-18, the 1979 Porsche 928 is one of the many vehicles used during filming of the 1983 blockbuster.

However, the vehicle for sale is claimed to be "the featured vehicle" and "received the brunt of screen time and seat time from the cast".

Rumour has it that lead actor Tom Cruise – previously unable to operate a vehicle with a manual transmission – learned the craft in this exact Porsche 928. It's also been the star of its own film, taking a lead role in the documentary The Quest for the RB928 (Risky Business 928).

Since its time on-set in Hollywood, the vehicle has changed colour twice, and since been restored back to its original on-screen appearance. Interestingly, the car left the factory in green, and was repainted in Champagne silver just for the movie.

As is the case with Barrett-Jackson auctions, no price guide has been given.
