Around the Tracks: The world’s greenest Honda Civic
Plus, BMW introduces a gaming chair like no other.
When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.
Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.
Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?
The world’s greenest Honda Civic is powered in a less conventional way
Forget horsepower and kilowatts: it turns out that all a fourth-generation Civic needs just two people power to drive around town. In a video titled "BICYCLE powered CAR" these YouTuber creators test drive the crazy project out on the wide open road. It works well and even manages to get them to their chosen destination – McDonalds.
Unfortunately, following their little adventure, they were stopped by a cop who doesn’t quite know what to do about the bicycle-powered vehicle. The men are able to convince the cop that it is indeed legal and they were thankfully let go.
BMW releases a gaming chair like no other
This is so much more than just a gaming chair. Designed by the BMW Group's innovation studio Designworks, the Rival Rig comes with an assortment of luxury features designed to improve the user's comfort during long online gaming sessions.
The studio has used a combination of AI sensors, pneumatic air pads and electro-mechanical actuators, and an Adaptive Seating system can analyse the player's movements and adapt the seating position accordingly, all in a bid to reduce stress. There is even a massage function to help relax gamers after an intense virtual race.
We not sure of the price, but it's surely a much needed investment for hardcore gamers, right?
Ferrari now offers a bespoke mini Ferrari to go with your real one (but it ain't cheap)
As if consumers haven't paid enough already for their Ferrari, buyers now have a fun new option box to tick when they’re buying one of Maranello’s famed supercars. Along with the long list of options you can add to the supercar, customers are now able to order either a 1:8 or 1:12 scale model to match their full-size car.
The models are made by Amalgam Collection, which has been working with Ferrari since 1998 – but this represents another level of collaboration between the brands. The cost? A lot. For example, a scale 2009 458 Italia sells for around $13,000 Australian dollars.
One-off Ford Shelby Cobra concept heads for auction
The one-off Ford Shelby Cobra concept unveiled at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show is about to go under the hammer with auction house Mecum in the US. Based around the mid-engined Ford GT supercar’s aluminium chassis – but modified to suit the new configuration – the one-off packs a V10 engine driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
This one of a kind is built from a double-wall fibreglass structure, while inside the two-seat cockpit there’s a billet aluminium dashboard featuring carbon-fibre details and carbon Sparco seats. We don't know what it will go for but it's expected to fetch seven figures.
Need Wi-Fi on the road? This guy had the wrong idea
When police saw a man driving on a California Highway Patrol who had installed a satellite dish on his car’s bonnet, they were stunned. When pulled over and asked why he had a huge dish attached to his Toyota Prius, his answer was that he needed Wi-Fi on the road.
It was reported that the driver apparently told the officer that he was using the Starlink service to run a business out of their car. It's no surprise that the man was issued a pretty hefty fine.
