New Nissan Pathfinder confirmed for Australia, here in 2022

The current-generation SUV has officially sold out in Australia. Its replacement is at least six months away.

The next-generation Nissan Pathfinder is expected to appear in Australian showrooms some time during 2022, a spokesperson for the brand has confirmed to CarAdvice.

Revealed for the US market in January this year, the new Nissan vehicle carries across the existing 3.5-litre petrol V6 engine, this time with an increased output of 212kW/351Nm and paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission (replacing the outgoing CVT). Buyers can choose between front- and all-wheel drive.

Local pricing and specifications will be announced closer to launch, however expect an increase over the outgoing model, which is priced from $44,240 before on-road costs.

Just one current-generation Nissan Pathfinder was reported as sold last month (June) according to VFACTS industry sales data. CarAdvice understands this was the last new example of the SUV in Australia.

A spokesperson for the brand said: “Nissan Australia has no new stock of Pathfinder. [However] there are a few dealer demonstrators still in the dealer network... We anticipate seeing the new model in 2022.”

Nissan Pathfinder was introduced to the Australian market in 1986.

The current-generation vehicle – which replaced the previous body-on-frame chassis with a more road-focused monocoque design, and introduced styling cues in line with the wider Nissan SUV range – was launched in 2013.

Since 2005 Nissan Australia has reported more than 50,000 Pathfinders as sold in Australia.
