2022 Genesis G80 Sport revealed, Australian launch due September 2021

Genesis' new large sedan gains a slew of sporty upgrades, bringing an updated look and rear-wheel steering.

The 2022 Genesis G80 Sport has been revealed, ahead of its Australian launch in September 2021.

The latest in Genesis’ line of more aggressive Sport models, the new G80 Sport brings a selection of exterior, interior and chassis tweaks to the brand’s large sedan.

Headlining the exterior changes is a new front bumper, with a sportier lower intake design, a new dark gloss chrome grille, and black headlight surrounds.

Dark gloss chrome side mouldings are new, as are unique 20-inch 'G-Matrix' alloy wheels hiding brake calipers finished in black or red. A unique bumper design also features at the rear, while the whole car is finished in a new Cavendish Red hue "inspired by a cliffside on the north coast of Prince Edward Island in Canada".

Inside, changes include a unique three-spoke steering wheel, unique diamond or V-patterned seat quilting designs, and a choice of Sport-specific aluminium, carbon-fibre or diamond-pattenered "hybrid weaving" inlays.

Genesis hasn't detailed whether the Sport receives a performance boost over lesser G80 variants, though if other Genesis Sport models are a guide, expect the standard car's 279kW/530Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 to carry over.

Rear-wheel steering will feature for improved agility, however, and the Korean brand's images indicate all-wheel drive will be available in certain markets.

The 2022 Genesis G80 Sport will go on sale in Australia late in the third quarter of 2021, indicating a local launch in September.
