Porsche Cayman and Boxster to be built alongside VW Golfs

Volkswagen's Osnabrück factory is set to be buzzing soon with Volkswagen's new Golf Cabriolet running down the production lines.

Given the demand for Porsche Boxster and Cayman models, Porsche is looking at outsourcing production when the Zuffenhausen plant reaches capacity. And guess where that will happen? According to German magazine Auto Bild, at the VW Osnabrück plant. By the end of 2012, around 1800 people will be employed at the plant, giving more than ample staff to cater for demand.

Imagine the look on a Porsche owner's face, though, when you tell them that it was built by the same people who make a cheap Veedub convertible. Considering it's still in Germany, quality shouldn't be a problem.

But with BMWs being built in the US, Hondas being built in Thailand, and Aston Martins being built in Austria, does it really matter where a car is built anymore?
