  • 2022 BMW X3 and BMW X4 price and specs detailed
  • Facelifted SUV range receives updates inside and out
  • Plug-in hybrid powertrain offered for the first time
  • Prices start from $73,900 before on-road costs

Australian pricing and specifications for the 2022 BMW X3 and BMW X4 have been confirmed, ahead of the first customer deliveries in the fourth quarter of this year (October to December inclusive).

The facelifted SUVs pick up reshaped front and rear ends, new headlights, an updated interior, and revised infotainment across the range. A plug-in hybrid powertrain also joins the line-up for the first time.

Nine variants are on offer locally (six variants of the X3 and three variants of the X4), with the entry-level X3 sDrive20i starting at $73,900 before on-road costs, and the flagship performance-focused X4 M40i priced from $123,900 before on-road costs.

A range of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines are available, all sending power to the road via an eight-speed 'Steptronic' automatic transmission. The X3 sDrive20i is the only two-wheel drive variant, with drive sent exclusively to the rear axle – all other models are all-wheel drive.

The X3 sDrive20i and X4 xDrive20i derive 135kW/300Nm from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The X3 and X4 xDrive30i both get a recalibrated variant of that same four-pot powertrain, this time delivering 185kW/350Nm.

The plug-in hybrid X3 xDrive30e sees the aforementioned 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor for a combined output of 215kW/420Nm.

The cheapest diesel variant in the range – the X3 xDrive20d – gets a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, developing 140kW/400Nm. The xDrive30d, meanwhile, features a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine (195kW/620Nm).

The range-topping X3 M40i gets a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine producing 285kW/500Nm. According to BMW, this allows the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in 4.8 seconds.

Inside the updated cabin, a 12.3-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is centrally mounted on the dashboard. A digital instrument cluster and BMW head-up display feature as standard.

Complete specifications for each model variant can be viewed at the bottom of this story.

As with all BMW models in Australia, the X3 and X4 SUVs are covered by a three-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty.

The 2022 BMW X3 and X4 SUVs line-ups will go on sale in Australia by the end of December 2021.
