2022 Toyota RAV4 updates announced, Australian launch due early 2022

Toyota has detailed a range of updates to its popular family SUV. Australian deliveries will commence early next year, though pricing and images are yet to be released.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 has gained an array of updates, ahead of first Australian deliveries early next year.

Headlining the updates to Toyota's popular mid-size SUV is a revised exterior appearance, with changes claimed to include including a new LED fog light design across the RAV4 range, and new alloy wheels "on most variants".

Hybrid variants gain restyled headlights claimed to enhance night-time vision, while all automatic petrol variants benefit from engine stop-start technology.

Note: Images of the updated Toyota RAV4 have yet to be released, so photos of the current model have been inserted throughout instead. This story will be updated when more images come to hand.

Inside, high-spec RAV4 Cruiser variants pick up an eight-way power-adjustable passenger seat, three-stage front-seat ventilation, and a digital rear-view mirror, while illuminated door switches have been added to GXL, Cruiser and Edge variants.

Meanwhile, the RAV4 Edge has seen its rear cross-traffic alert system upgraded with 'parking support brake' functionality, which can brake for detected obstacles.

Buyers continue to be offered the same array of 127kW 2.0-litre petrol, 152kW 2.5-litre petrol and best-selling 160-163kW 2.5-litre hybrid options, depending on variant, though the entry-level GX's manual transmission has seemingly been dropped.

Toyota has yet to confirm pricing for the updated RAV4 – with further details due closer to launch – though a mild price increase of around $1000 is likely.

"The RAV4's mix of style and practicality, and in particular, its hybrid powertrain, really resonates with buyers and these upgrades will add to that appeal," said Toyota Australia sales and marketing boss Sean Hanley.

"While these updates won't arrive until early next year, Toyota is committed to keeping its customers aware of upcoming improvements and we encourage our customers to speak with their preferred Toyota Dealer about the upgrade on any orders placed."

Production of the 2022 Toyota RAV4 will commence in December 2021, ahead of first deliveries in early 2022.
