2021 Kia Sorento, Carnival V6 recalled over fuel pipe fault
The vehicles' fuel supply pipes could be damaged, allowing fuel to leak out into the engine compartment and cause a fire, according to Kia.
Kia Australia has recalled a total of 767 examples of the 2021 Kia Sorento and 2021 Kia Carnival, fitted with 3.5-litre 'Lambda' V6 engines.
According to the recall notice lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), "The fuel supply pipe may have been damaged during manufacturing, which may result in a fuel leak.
"If a fuel leak occurs, this can result in an engine compartment fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident, serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users," the notice adds.
All affected Sorento and Carnival vehicles are stamped Model Year 2021, and were available for sale between 27 January 2021 and 25 April 2021.
A full list of the affected vehicle identification numbers can be found here.
Kia Australia confirmed to CarAdvice there have been no recorded incidents of the fault locally.
Kia is in the process of contacting all affected owners by mail. It advises customers contact their nearest dealer to arrange for an inspection and repair, both free of charge.
