2018-20 Suzuki Jimny recalled with fuel pump and airbag faults: Up to 4282 vehicles affected

Two separate faults have prompted the recall of over 4200 examples of the Suzuki Jimny in Australia.

Suzuki Australia has recalled up to 4282 examples of its 2018-20 Jimny off-roader, citing two separate faults relating to the fuel pump and airbags.

The affected vehicles were sold between 9 May 2018 and 2 December 2020 (Model Years 2018 to 2020).

Four separate recall notices – outlining the two faults – were lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

Those referencing the first fault said: “Due to an incorrect manufacturing process, a component within the fuel pump could swell, causing the fuel pump to become inoperative … If the fuel pump malfunctions, the engine could stall while driving. This may increase the risk of an accident, resulting in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

The notices related to the second fault said: “The door harness wires on both the driver and passenger doors could be damaged or cut by the repeated motion of opening or closing the doors .. If the wires are cut or damaged, this may cause the curtain and side airbags to not deploy correctly. In the event of an accident, this could increase the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants.”

CarAdvice has contacted Suzuki Australia to find out if any local examples of the vehicle have been affected. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
