Video: 2011 Toyota Prius MPV teaser with Bob Burnquist

Toyota has released a teaser video of the third vehicle in its Prius family – currently known as the Prius MPV – ahead of its world premiere at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.

In a clear attempt to tap into a younger demographic, the video features Brazilian-American professional skateboarder Bob Burnquist, who is well known for his environmentally conscious lifestyle.

Toyota is pitching the Prius MPV as a vehicle suited to those with active lifestyles.

It says the latest addition to the Prius family will have 50 percent more cargo room than the standard Prius hatch.

The current Prius has 446 litres of boot space and expands to 1120 litres with the rear seats folded down. Therefore, expect the Prius MPV to have either a standard boot capacity of 670 litres, or an expanded capacity of 1680 litres, or both.

Earlier teaser images reveal the Prius MPV will be slightly longer and taller than the Prius hatch, and the styling will largely resemble the third-generation hybrid.

The interior also shares with Prius hatch, although with a fresher, more modern design.

The Toyota Prius MPV will be unveiled at Detroit on January 10.
