2022 Lexus LX750h, Toyota LandCruiser Hybrid to pack 358kW twin-turbo petrol V6 punch – report

Lexus' next-gen full-size SUV will offer a 358kW petrol-electric hybrid V6 option, according to new reports – and it could be bound for the new LandCruiser Hybrid.

The next-generation 2022 Lexus LX750h – and its twin under the skin, the upcoming Toyota LandCruiser Hybrid – look set to employ petrol-electric V6 power, according to new reports out of Japan.

Japanese outlet Creative311 reports the 'LX750h' hybrid version of Lexus' next-generation ladder-frame flagship will pair a single electric motor with the new Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series' 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6rather than a frugal diesel engine, as slated to be used a hybrid version of the smaller Hilux-based Toyota Fortuner.

Outputs will reportedly be rated at 358kW and 871Nm – a not-insignificant 53kW/221Nm jump over the non-hybrid turbo-petrol V6's 305kW/650Nm outputs, which will see use in an 'entry-level' LX600 version of the new model.

A 10-speed automatic transmission will be retained, likely paired to a carry-over four-wheel drive system. Alongside the LX600 and LX750h, Creative311 claims the LandCruiser's 227kW/700Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel V6 will make its way to the LX, badged as the LX500d.

While it's not certain the LX750h's petrol-electric hybrid V6 powertrain would carry over to the new LandCruiser Hybrid, the vehicles' shared powertrains – and Toyota's willingness to share the non-hybrid petrol and diesel V6 engines – suggests the hybrid V6 setup will carry over to the hybrid 300 Series unchanged.

Due to be unveiled by the end of 2021, the new Lexus LX will adopt an evolutionary exterior design not dissimilar from its predecessor, with an upright stance, tall spindle grille and large LED headlights.

Inside, Creative311 suggests the fitment of a central infotainment screen as large as 17 inches, running the same new-generation software debuted in the new NX mid-size SUV.

Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest on the new 2022 Lexus LX and Toyota LandCruiser Hybrid, the latter due to arrive at a similar time to the new Lexus flagship.
