2022 Hyundai i30 Sedan N spied without camouflage, Australian launch due late 2021

Hyundai’s new go-fast four-door has dropped its disguise, ahead of an imminent reveal and Australian launch late in 2021.

The 2022 Hyundai i30 Sedan N has been spied undisguised during a photo shoot, ahead of its full reveal in the coming weeks, and an Australian launch in late 2021.

Images posted by the Korean Car Blog (via Hyundai Clube Portugal) show Hyundai's new high-performance i30 Sedan free of camouflage, finished in Hyundai N's signature Performance Blue paint, contrasted with red accents and black styling features.

The gloss black finish applied to much of the front end makes for a far more aggressive appearance than the 'lesser' i30 Sedan N Line, contrasted by a body-coloured element running over the lower intercooler grille, and a red accent line below.

An intricate 19-inch alloy wheel design fills the arches, while sporty lower side skirts are adorned with red accents, similar to the pint-sized i20 N hot hatch.

The images don't provide a clear view of the i30 Sedan N's rear end, though spy photos and teasers have prepared us to expect a prominent fixed rear spoiler, and an aggressive lower diffuser with dual exhaust tips and red accents.

Official mechanical details have yet to be announced, though it's all but confirmed it will be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as the related i30 N hatch and Kona N SUV.

Expect outputs to mirror the other cars' 206kW and 392Nm, with the possibility for the Kona's 213kW overboost function.

A six-speed manual or eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission send drive to the front wheels through an electronically-controlled limited-slip differential.

The 2022 Hyundai i30 Sedan N should make its official debut around a month from now – using the Kona N's debut as a guide – ahead of an Australian launch in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December inclusive).
