2021 Hyundai i20 N: UK pricing revealed, hinting at sharp Australian starting price

Hyundai's smallest full-fat N model has been priced in the UK – and there's good news for Australian buyers.

Pricing and specifications for the 2021 Hyundai i20 N have been announced for the UK, providing our best hint yet at how much Hyundai's pocket rocket could cost in Australia once it launches by October.

Just one i20 N variant is offered in the UK (and a handful of options), priced from £24,995 drive-away (AU$45,750) – equating to £900 (AU$1650) less than a five-door Ford Fiesta ST specified similarly to the version offered in Australia, with blind-spot monitoring, wireless charging and a spare wheel (all of which are optional in the UK but standard in Australia).

Ticking the box for the Hyundai hot hatch's sole option (aside from paint) – a Bose premium sound system for £500 (AU$915), expected to be standard in Australia – takes the price to £25,495 drive-away – suggesting the i20 N could be priced close to its Ford rival in Australia, at about $32,000 before on-road costs.

Standard equipment in the UK includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, keyless entry, leather and fabric sports seats, front seat heating, LED headlights, climate control, six-speaker sound system, and wireless phone charging.

A full suite of active safety features are standard, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, driver attention alert, tyre pressure monitoring, and manual cruise control.

Powering the i20 N is a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 150kW and 275Nm (or 304Nm on overboost) to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. Hyundai UK claims a 6.2-second 0-100km/h time.

A mechanical limited-slip front differential is standard, as are 18-inch alloy wheels, a sports body kit, Pirelli P Zero tyres, five drive modes, auto rev-matching, 320mm front brakes with red calipers, and launch control.

Polar White paint is standard, while premium colours – namely Dragon Red, Phantom Black, Intense Blue, Sleek Silver, Brass and the halo Performance Blue – command an extra £550 (AU$1000). All exterior colours bar Phantom Black can be had with a contrasting black roof for an extra £500 (AU$915).

The 2021 Hyundai i20 N is on sale now in the UK.

An Australian launch is due to occur in the third quarter of 2021 (July to September 2021 inclusive). Local pricing and specifications will be announced closer to launch.
