  • Wider range gains Android Auto, head-up display and more for MY22
  • Pricing starts from $156,300 before on-road costs, with orders now open

The 2022 Porsche Taycan range has expanded with the addition of two new entry-level variants, divided across sedan and Cross Turismo high-riding wagon body styles.

Available to order now across Porsche Centres nationwide ahead of first deliveries in early 2022, the entry-level, rear-wheel drive Taycan (no badge) is priced from $156,300 before on-road costs, while the new all-wheel-drive Taycan 4 Cross Turismo wagon starts at $176,600 before on-road costs.

Those prices place each variant a fair amount below the 4S grades sitting above them, priced from $194,700 before on-road costs in 4S sedan form, or $205,300 before on-roads in 4S Cross Turismo guise.

Powering the rear-drive Taycan sedan as standard is a 300kW/345Nm electric motor (in overboost mode during Launch Control, versus 240kW in normal driving) and a 79.2kWh 'Performance Battery', enabling a 5.4-second 0-100km/h sprint time, 230km/h top speed and a 431km WLTP driving range.

Opting for the 93.2kWh Performance Battery Plus ups the motor's outputs to 350kW (on overboost, versus 280kW in normal driving) and 357Nm, increasing claimed maximum driving range to 484km WLTP, but keeping the 0-100km/h time and top speed pegged at the aforementioned figures.

225kW DC fast-charging is offered with the smaller battery, increasing to 270kW with the larger pack, yet both models can complete five to 80 per cent charges in 22.5 minutes, and add 100km of range in five minutes.

Meanwhile, the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo features the 93.2kWh battery as standard, paired to two electric motors developing a combined 350kW/500Nm on overboost (280kW in normal driving).

Porsche claims a 5.1-second 0-100km/h sprint time and a 389-456km range on Europe's WLTP cycle (or 437km, according to ADR testing figures quoted by Porsche Cars Australia). It offers the same charging capabilities as the 93.2kWh Taycan sedan.

Standard equipment shared between both mlodels includes a 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and digital radio, widescreen digital instrument cluster, 19-inch alloy wheels, power-folding auto-dimming side mirrors, LED headlights with PDLS Plus, 14-way electric Comfort front seats with memory, and a heated steering wheel.

There's also privacy glass, rear side airbags, a tyre repair kit, grey top windscreen tint, and a suite of assistance systems, including Comfort Access, lane-change assist, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist (stop-and-go), a head-up display and Power Steering Plus.

A complementary three-year subscription to the Chargefox 350kW DC charging network, along with complementary charging at selected 50kW Chargefox stations. Charging cables for domestic and industrial sockets are standard, as well as a Mode 3 public charging cord compatible with most AC charging networks in Australia.

Alongside the introduction of Taycan rear-wheel-drive sedan and Taycan 4 Cross Turismo variants, Porsche Cars Australia has announced a selection of specification updates for the wider Taycan 4S, Turbo and Turbo S sedan and wagon ranges, as part of Model Year 2022.

All three models gain Android Auto, a head-up display, tyre repair kit with air compressor, traffic-jam assist, Power Steering Plus (already standard on Turbo S) and a windscreen with grey top tinting for 2022, while Turbo and Turbo S vehicles gain a 22kW onboard AC charger as standard that's optional on other variants.

Taycan owners can now 'rent' additional technology or driver assistance features such as Active Lane-Keeping Assist for a selected period of time, as part of a feature known as Functions on Demand.

A number of prices have also been adjusted for MY22 – including higher-performance Cross Turismo, deliveries of which have yet to even begin.

The 2022 Porsche Taycan range is available to order now. First deliveries of the base Taycan sedan and Taycan 4 Cross Turismo will commence in early 2022. The 4S and Turbo Cross Turismo will reach the first customers' driveways between July and September 2021.
