2011 Hyundai i40 revealed further in new sketches

Hyundai has released more official sketches of the 2011 Hyundai i40 ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

As detailed last week, the i40 is the first medium-sized Hyundai to be specifically developed for the European market.

Hyundai is taking the unusual approach of launching the wagon before the sedan. The i40 wagon will go sale shortly after its world premiere in Geneva, while the sedan has been confirmed for the second half of 2011.

European markets do not have the Hyundai i45 sedan like we do in Australia, and the i40 will replace the aging Sonata in those countries. The boxy sedan version that was replaced by the i45 in Australia earlier this year is still on sale in many European markets.

The i40 features the brand’s now ubiquitous ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language, with the signature hexagonal grille and flowing lines combining for a dynamic and cohesive package.

The styling of the new wagon is very similar to the ix20 hatch, which is already available in parts of Europe, and the ix35 SUV sold in Australia.

Hyundai Australia has remained quiet on the sketches, although its plans are certain to become clearer by the time the vehicle takes to the stand in Switzerland.
