2021 Porsche Cayenne recalled for rear suspension mounting fault

A total of 92 Cayenne wagon and Coupes suffer from faulty rear trailing arm mounting nuts which could break and affect handling, according to Porsche.

Porsche Cars Australia has recalled 92 examples of the 2021 Porsche Cayenne wagon and Coupe.

According to the recall notice lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), "the clamping nuts on the rear-axle trailing arm may break over the service life of the vehicle, as they may not have been manufactured within specification.

"A broken clamping nut can result in increased movement between the trailing arm and wheel carrier. As a result, vehicle handling may be diminished. This increases the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users, and damage to property," it continues.

All 92 affected Cayenne wagon (9YA-series) and Coupe (9YB-series) vehicles were sold between 16 September 2020 and 31 October 2020, with all models stamped Model Year 2021.

A full list of all affected vehicle identification numbers can be found here.

Porsche says it will contact all affected owners to notify them of the recall. When parts are made available from mid-June 2021, the brand will ask owners to organise a time with their preferred Porsche Centre for a free-of-charge repair.

"Until your workshop appointment, if you specifically notice that your steering wheel is slightly out of line, your vehicle is pulling to one side, or if you hear distinctive noises coming from the rear axle area, please immediately park your vehicle safely and contact the nearest official Porsche Centre by phone", the notice reads.

"Alternatively, should you require immediate assistance outside of business hours, please contact Porsche Roadside Assistance on 1800 659 911."
