2022 Chevrolet Corvette order books now open, Carbon Edition price and specs

America's mid-engined icon available to order in Australia at last, ahead of the first cars leaving US shores in the final months of 2021.

  • 2022 Chevrolet Corvette pricing and specification
  • Carbon Edition priced from $189,990 before on-road costs
  • Carbon-fibre accents and unique wheels for limited-edition variant
  • Order books now open, ahead of late 2021 or early 2022 arrivals

Order books for the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette have officially opened, as local importer General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) announces pricing and specifications for the limited-run Carbon Edition variant.

Following the announcement of pricing for 2LT and 3LT Corvette variants in late March, GMSV has confirmed the Corvette Carbon Edition – a 'launch edition' model based on the 3LT Coupe – will cost from $189,990 before on-road costs, or nearly $30,000 more than the variant on which it is based.

The first Australia-bound 2022 Chevrolet Corvette models will roll out of the Bowling Green assembly plant in the US in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December inclusive), with first Australian deliveries likely at the end of 2021, or early in 2022.

Over the 3LT Coupe, the Carbon Edition – just one of which will be allocated to each GMSV dealer – adds a carbon-fibre interior package with carbon dashboard and door panel inserts, 19-inch front and 20-inch rear 'trident' alloy wheels with Spectra Grey accents, colour-coded brake calipers, and a carbon-fibre roof.

It also gains an engine appearance lighting package, a Carbon Edition build plate, and a unique Carbon Edition 'customer welcome pack' – though the contents of the pack have yet to be confirmed.

GMSV says the carbon-fibre elements and trident alloy wheels are exclusive to the Carbon Edition for the Model Year 2022 production run.

The Carbon Edition is powered by the same 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 as the regular Corvette, fitted with the Z51 Performance Package to send 369kW and 637Nm to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Alongside the Carbon Edition announcement, GMSV has confirmed order books are now open for the 2022 Corvette range – though buyers should get in fast, as only four vehicles are said to be allocated to each  of the 57 GMSV dealers, according to earlier CarAdvice reporting.

While prices were announced in March, full standard equipment specifications for 2LT and 3LT variants have yet to be announced – though the brand has confirmed all models will feature the Z51 Performance Package, which adds a bi-modal exhaust, adaptive suspension, larger brakes, a limited-slip differential, front splitter, rear spoiler, additional cooling, and more.

Also standard in Australia will be a head-up display, 14-speaker Bose premium sound system, and a front axle lift system (which lifts the vehicle's nose to clear driveways and speed bumps).

"The long wait is over, the books are open and our dealers are ready to place orders. Excitement and anticipation have been building since the reveal of the C8 right-hand drive programme almost two years ago, even more so when we released recommended retail pricing for 2LT and 3LT models in late March" said GMSV director Joanne Stogiannis.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette is now available to order, ahead of first deliveries expected late in 2021 or early in 2022.
