  • 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric pricing and specification
  • Volvo's first EV here by October with 300kW dual-motor power, 418km WLTP range
  • 9.0-inch screen, premium audio and semi-autonomous driving all standard-fit

Volvo's first electric vehicle, the 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, is closing in on Australian showrooms, with an arrival due between July and September 2021 – and now the brand has announced a price: $76,990 before on-road costs.

One specification of the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric will be offered in Australia, with its $76,990 list price putting the electric Volvo head-to-head on price with rivals including the circa-$80,000 before on-road costs Tesla Model 3 Long Range and $76,800 before on-road costs Mercedes-Benz EQA 250.

Powering the model is a pair of electric motors and a 78kWh lithium-ion battery which combine to develop 300kW and 660Nm, enabling a 4.9-second sprint from zero to 100km/h – making the electric XC40 the quickest-accelerating Volvo on sale in Australia.

A 418km range on Europe's WLTP test cycle is claimed, while 150kW DC fast charging enables a zero to 80 per cent charge in as little as 40 minutes.

Standard equipment includes a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen running Volvo's new Android Automotive-based operating system – incorporating wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and digital radio – plus 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry, leather-accented seat trim, heated front and rear seats, and wireless phone charging.

There's also dual-zone climate control, a Harman Kardon premium sound system, 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, hands-free electric tailgate, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, power-folding exterior mirrors with auto-dimming, sports suspension, aluminium interior inlays, front and rear carpet mats, and power-folding rear headrests.

Standard safety features include forward and reverse autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-centring assist (enabling semi-autonomous driving on motorways), blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic parking, hill-start assist, and hill-descent control.

A five-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty is standard, joined by three-year/100,000km service wear and tear and eight-year roadside assistance plans, and an eight-year battery warranty.

The 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric will reach Australian showrooms in the third quarter of 2021 (July to September inclusive), with previous reporting from CarAdvice pointing to a launch in August.
