Right-hand-drive 2022 Chevrolet Corvette revealed in Japan

Right-hook American icon breaks cover officially in Japan, ahead of first Australian arrivals late in 2021 or early in 2022.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette has edged one step closer to Australia, with the right-hand drive version bound for our shores being officially unveiled in recent days.

While Chevrolet and its General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) Australian distributor have revealed the right-hand drive Corvette's interior – and our spy photography partners have caught it testing in the US – this our the first official look at the RHD 'Vette's exterior – though, unsurprisingly, it's identical to its US-market counterpart.

Our first look comes courtesy of a live-streamed 'private preview' event held at the Fuji Speedway circuit in Japan – the first right-hand drive market to get the new Corvette – in place of an in-person test-drive event for pre-order customers, which was called off over COVID-19 concerns (though there's more than a hint of 'video game graphics' to these images).

While the first examples will soon be delivered to Japanese customers, Australian buyers will have to wait until later in 2021 at the earliest to get behind the wheel of a Corvette on local roads, with the first "shipments" to Australia set to commence in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December inclusive).

The first cars are expected to reach local showrooms very late in 2021 or early in 2022 – pending any shipping delays – though, as reported by CarAdvice, all 57 GMSV dealers will only receive four cars each in the initial production run.

Pricing for the new Chevrolet Corvette will start from $144,990 before on-road costs for an 'entry-level' 2LT coupe, rising to $175,500 for a 3LT Convertible, excluding the yet-to-be-priced Carbon Edition coupe – click here to read the full pricing story.

Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest 2022 Chevrolet Corvette coverage.

UPDATE: While we're pretty confident these photos weren't taken in the Gran Turismo Sport video game, we thought we'd have a go imagining what it would look like if they were...
