2021 Toyota HiAce loses its colour, white paint now the only option

From next month, you can have any colour Toyota HiAce you want as long as it’s white. If you want a splash of colour you'll need to buy a Ford Transit or VW Transporter.

Toyota appears to be making a return to its reputation for producing whitegoods on wheels, with a new change to the 2021 Toyota HiAce van.

The Toyota HiAce will soon be only available in white, with production from July 2021 ending the options of silver, gold or blue paint.

Toyota dealers say they believe the decision was made by the factory because most orders were for “vanilla white” HiAce vans.

By removing the option of colour choice (such as silver, below), it makes it easier to swap vehicles among dealers trying to fill customer orders.

The production line change from July 2021 – which should start to come through local showrooms from September or October onwards – also will see the introduction of vehicle tracking anti-theft technology embedded into each Toyota HiAce as standard.

It means the Toyota Hiace will get the same ‘SOS’ button and vehicle tracking system that will soon be fitted to the Toyota HiLux and which has already been fitted to the Toyota Camry and Toyota Yaris Cross.

While Toyota HiAce thefts don’t rank highly on stolen vehicle charts, the technology will likely come as a welcome relief to couriers and tradies who want to track down their vehicles because of the equipment, tools or other valuable cargo inside them.

Meanwhile, updated Toyota HiAce vans will also come with a large centre console and all-weather floormats, according to the bulletin.

As reported by Drive earlier, the technology change will coincide with the axing of the V6 petrol option following minuscule demand.
