Video: Renault Twingo ad banned for lesbian scene

There seems to be a bit of a theme developing in today’s news. A commercial for the new Renault Twingo has been banned by a number of Italian television stations because it features a ‘racy’ lesbian bedroom scene.

The advertisement is for the new Twingo Miss Sixty model, which makes what could only be called a cameo appearance at the very end of the clip, along with a few quick specs and the price.

More important, apparently, is that the paint colour of the new model is a near perfect match for the blonde girl’s top, which she earlier watched the brunette girl rather suggestively remove while on the bed.

Two Italian networks have refused to show the commercial – one of those was surprisingly the Mediaset empire, which is managed by Italian Prime Minister and notorious pantsman Silvio Berlusconi. Sky is the only channel in Italy to approve it.

Gay groups in Italy were reportedly outraged by the ad, which was designed by Publicis – well known for its 1990s ‘Papa and Nicole’ Renualt campaign.

A spokesperson for Publicis said it had no intention of creating a vulgar advertisement, and said it was original and clever.

Either way, the ad house has done its job, with the Twingo Miss Sixty spot popping up on websites all around the world.

Fun, racy ads are not new for the Twingo, which has recently made similar cameo appearances in other commercial spots in Europe like the one above.
