It's not the first time the Skoda Superb has picked up an award either. Earlier this year the 2010 Australia's Best Car Awards presented the Skoda Superb Wagon 125TDI with the Best Large Car under $60,000. It was also noted for its great fuel economy, interior room and value for money.
The Skoda Superb Wagon 125TDI comes with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine outputting 125kW of power and is matched to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It also returns a fuel economy rating of just 6.3L/100km making it one of the most fuel efficient wagons on the market.
The Superb offers a rear compartment space of 633 litres with the rear seats in place and 1865 litres with the rear seats folded down. The only other European car to come close in terms of space is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon which offers 1950 litres of maximum space.
Fifth Gear presenter Jonny Smith said about the award,
“Right at the beginning of the year, I crowned this the greatest wagon ever – and I stand by that even now. The mixture of space, speed, refinement, value, economy, comfort - it’s a beaut. Honestly, if you’re a dad and you need a car to carry all the flotsam and jetsam that comes with it, this is the car you need. It’s faultless. I love it.”
Skodas may have had a bit of a bad reputation in the past but there's no denying the excellent value for money the brand presents today, especially as the company is owned by one of the biggest automotive groups in the world - Volkswagen.
