2022 Lexus NX teased ahead of 12 June 2021 reveal
Lexus' new mid-size SUV will debut in full on 12 June 2021 – though a leaked promo video posted in February has already spoiled the surprise.
The 2022 Lexus NX mid-size luxury SUV will be unveiled in full at 1pm AEST on 12 June 2021, the brand has confirmed.
While a teaser image released by Lexus overnight alongside the announcement might only provide a small glimpse at the new NX's styling (in the shadow of what appears to be Japan's Mt Fuji), a leaked promotional video posted online in February showcased the new medium SUV's evolutionary exterior in full (pictured throughout).
Prominent in the teaser is the same three-piece, full-width LED tail-light bar as February's leak, all but confirming its validity.
However, it's worth noting the official image sees the video's elliptical Lexus emblem replaced by 'LEXUS' script similar to that featured on March's LF-Z Electrified concept, suggesting badging could differ between markets – given February's video showed a European model, versus the faux American plates worn by the teaser – or simply a last-minute design change.
Visible on the bottom edge of the teaser vehicle is what appears to be an 'NX250' or 'NX350' badge, which could point to a 152kW 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder (shared with the ES 250) in the case of the former or, as rumours suggest, an all-new 220kW 2.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder in the case of the latter.
We won't have to wait long to find out which of the theories (or both) proves true, as the covers will be lifted off the 2022 Lexus NX officially on 12 June 2021, at 1pm AEST. Click here to watch the reveal livestream.
While Australian timing for the SUV is yet to be confirmed, a local launch is likely by the end of 2021 if previous new Lexus models unveiled at similar times in the year are any guide – namely the facelifted IS sedan, unveiled in June 2020, and launched locally in November of the same year.
