Pricing and specifications for the 2021 BMW iX have been announced, ahead of first deliveries in the final quarter of 2021.

Three variants of BMW's flagship electric SUV will be offered at launch, across two battery sizes: iX xDrive40, xDrive40 Sport and xDrive50 Sport. Interested buyers can reserve their iX now through the BMW Shop.

All Australian-delivered models will be offered as standard with a complementary five-year/unlimited-usage subscription to the Chargefox public charging network.

Opening the range is the xDrive40, priced from $135,900 before on-road costs.

Powering the model is a 71kWh (net) lithium-ion battery, paired to dual electric motors to develop 240kW and 630Nm, enabling a 6.1-second sprint from zero to 100km/h, and a 425km range on Europe's WLTP test cycle.

150kW DC fast charging promises to enable a 10 to 80 per cent recharge in 31 minutes.

A full list of the model's standard equipment – along with every other variant in the iX range – can be found at the bottom of this story. A range of optional packages are available depending on the variant, named Comfort, Enhancement and Indulgence.

The xDrive40 powertrain can be had in a more aggressive Sport variant, priced from $141,900 before on-road costs.

Sitting atop the range at launch is the iX xDrive50, priced from $169,900 before on-road costs.

It upgrades to a larger 105.2kWh lithium-ion battery, which extracts 385kW/765Nm from dual electric motors for a 4.6-second 0-100km/h run and 630km WLTP range.

200kW DC charging enables a 35-minute 10 to 80 per cent recharge time.

The 2022 BMW iX will reach the first Australian customers' driveways in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December inclusive).
