2021 Genesis G70 price and specs

Genesis' updated mid-size sedan has arrived in Australia, with a simplified range and new features.

  • 2021 Genesis G70 pricing and specification
  • Two variants, two option packs for facelifted medium sedan
  • New safety features and larger displays for 2021
  • Priced from $63,000 before on-road costs

Pricing and specifications for the facelifted 2021 Genesis G70 sedan have been confirmed, with the vehicle on sale now.

Genesis' rival for the segment-leading BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 trio enters 2021 with a revised look inspired by the brand's latest models, and a raft of new technology features, including a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument cluster (a G70 first), and an expanded active safety suite.

Mild changes have occurred under the bonnet, with both engines on offer benefitting from a new Sport+ drive mode, and a multi-mode sports exhaust for the turbo V6 that lifts power to 274kW – matching its Kia Stinger twin under the skin.

Whereas the outgoing G70 range was offered with a dizzying six variants, the 2021 range slims that to just two, each available with one or two option packages.

Opening the line-up is the G70 2.0T (above, in green), priced from $63,000 before on-road costs – up $3700 over the outgoing base G70, thanks to additional standard comfort and safety features, and just $300 less than the 2020 G70 2.0T Sport.

Under the bonnet sits a carry-over 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine sending 179kW and 353Nm to the rear wheels through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

Standard equipment on the entry-level car includes 19-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, DAB+ digital radio, an 8.0-inch 'Supervision' digital instrument display, leather upholstery, and 12-way electric front seats with heating and ventilation.

There's also keyless entry, push-button start, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, leather-wrapped centre console and trim elements, a nine-speaker sound system, four-way power driver's lumbar support, passenger walk-in switch, aluminium inlays, electro-chromatic rear-view mirror (new for 2021) and rain-sensing wipers.

New active safety features include lane-following assist, intersection support for the autonomous emergency braking system, the Blind-Spot View Monitor (which projects a camera feed of the vehicle's blind spot into the instrument cluster), a 360-degree camera, safe exit warning, multi-collision braking, and rear occupant alert.

The blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert systems are now capable of detecting and braking for hazards, while Genesis has added front-centre and rear-side airbags, bringing the total to 10.

They join carry-over driver-assistance features including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, high-beam assist, lane-keep assist (alongside the new lane-following system), driver attention warning, and leading vehicle departure alert.

2.0T buyers have a choice of Luxury and Sport packages, commanding $10,000 and $4000 premiums respectively – more on what these contain in a moment.

Sitting atop the revised range is the G70 3.3T Sport (below, in white), priced from $76,000 before on-road costs – up $3550 over the outgoing 3.3T Sport.

Power comes from a revised 3.3-litre twin-turbo petrol V6, now sending 274kW and 510Nm – up 2kW thanks to a new bi-modal sports exhaust – to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Additions over the 2.0T include new dual exhaust tips, and adaptive dampers with a bespoke Sport+ tune.

Also standard on the 3.3T Sport is (as its name suggests) a new Sport Line Package, which is available as a $4000 option on 2.0T models.

It adds a limited-slip rear differential, four-piston front and two-piston rear Brembo brakes, unique 19-inch dark 'Sport' alloy wheels, dark chrome grille and window surrounds, black grille inserts, leather Sport seats, suede headlining, alloy pedals, and unique aluminium inlays.

Optional on both variants is the $10,000 Luxury Package, which adds a 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, 16-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory, nappa leather upholstery, heated steering wheel and rear seats, power-operated boot lid, and a 15-speaker Lexicon premium sound system.

The Luxury Package also adds suede headlining, an electrically-adjustable tilt/telescopic steering column, forward attention warning, adaptive LED headlights, and acoustic laminated windscreen and front door glass.

The 2021 Genesis G70 range is on sale now. The local range will be expanded with the addition of a Shooting Brake wagon variant, in the third quarter of 2021.
