2022 Bentley Bentayga S revealed, Australian launch due early 2022

New variant of Bentley's maiden SUV targets driving dynamics and sharp handling, with stiffer suspension and standard-fit active anti-roll bars.

The 2022 Bentley Bentayga S has been unveiled, ahead of its Australian launch in the first quarter of 2022 (January to March inclusive).

Based on the 'standard' Bentayga V8, the new S variant of Bentley's facelifted SUV aims to deliver "an even more engaging drive" than its donor through an array of chassis tweaks and changes under the skin.

The standard Bentayga's optional 48-volt active anti-roll stabilisation functionality – known as Bentley Dynamic Ride – is standard-fit in the S, with the system capable of applying up to 1300Nm within 0.3 seconds to counteract body roll in sharp corners, keeping the vehicle flat and maintaining maximum contact between the tyres and the tarmac.

The air suspension system is now 15 per cent stiffer, the vehicle's Sport mode has been recalibrated for improved agility, while the brake-based torque-vectoring and stability control systems have been retuned to improve response.

Powering the Bentayga S is the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8, eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system as the regular Bentayga, though the powertrain now breathes through a new sports exhaust system with freer-flowing pipes and a tweaked muffler.

Power and torque outputs remain pegged at 404kW and 770Nm, however, enabling a 4.5-second 0-100km/h sprint time and a top speed of 290km/h.

Styling upgrades over the standard V8 model include a slew of black exterior trim elements – covering the window surrounds, mirror caps, side sills and front intakes – plus darkened headlight and tail-light lenses, a larger rear spoiler that's claimed to increase aerodynamic stability, and black oval-shaped exhaust outlets.

There's also a new 22-inch wheel design finished in a choice of three hues, plus 'S' badging.

Inside, Alcantara has been employed to trim the seat cushions and backrests, gear selector, steering wheel, upper trim elements and headliner, with buyers able to pick from four, five or seven-seat configurations – each employing a new fluted seat design with unique contrast stitching and 'S' embroidery.

Other interior additions include model-specific badging on the dashboard, and Bentayga S-branded illuminated sill plates.

The S shares the range-topping Speed variant's 10.9-inch infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster, the latter offering the same choice of Classic and Expanded views.

The 2022 Bentley Bentayga S is available to order now in the UK, priced from £179,600 (AU$328,000).

First Australian deliveries are slated for the first quarter of 2022 (January to March inclusive). Order books are now open, though local pricing won't be announced until closer to launch.
