Standard equipment in the UK-specification Focus includes a digital radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity and voice control, as well as six airbags (front, side and curtains) and stability control.

Also standard on all new Focus models is Ford’s torque vectoring control system, which balances the distribution of engine torque between the front wheels to optimise grip and stability in all conditions.

A significant range of three petrol and four diesel engines will be available in the UK. The petrol units all have a displacement of 1.6 litres and include 77kW, 92kW and 110kW EcoBoost power options. All CO

emissions from the petrol variants come in below 140g/km.

The diesel options start with a 1.6-litre diesel offering 70kW and 85kW, and expand to 103kW and 120kW from the range-topping 2.0-litre unit. The most frugal of these will emit just 109g/km CO

and have a combined cycle fuel consumption of less than 4.2 litres/100km.

The Focus will be offered in the UK as a five-door hatch and wagon in four trim levels: entry-level Edge, sports-focused Zetec, and the higher specification Titanium and Titanium X models.

The Zetec scores 16in alloys wheels, heated windscreen and door mirrors, leather steering wheel, front fog lamps and sports seats.

The luxury Titanium adds keyless start, dual automatic climate control, Hill Start Assist, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, cruise control with speed limiter and a Sony audio system.

The top-spec Titanium X is fully loaded with leather trim, heated seats, 17in alloys, park assist, bi-xenon headlamps, LED daytime running lights, headlamp jets and power-fold mirrors. The Titanium X Estate will start from £25,095 ($39,580).

Optional extras will include Ford’s low speed safety system, lane-keeping aid, blind spot information system and Sony navigation with rear-view camera.

Ford Australia last week confirmed sales of the 2012 Ford Focus were on track to commence in Australia in the third quarter of next year.

Local specifications are yet to be finalised, but Australian customers will have a choice of the five-door hatch and four-door sedan variants, which will initially be sourced from the Saarlouis plant in Germany.
