2012 BMW 1 Series announced with 128i variant

BMW has just announced the release of the new, facelifted version of the BMW 1 Series Coupe and Convertible in international markets. The 2012 BMW 1 Series gets a few cosmetic changes and some mechanical revisions.

Much of the lineup, in terms of trim levels, will remain the same. The only major difference will be the addition of a BMW 128i version. This model gets the old BMW 330i, 3.0-litre straight six engine outputting 170kW matched to a six-speed manual transmission. The BMW 128i will provide a reasonably sporty 1 Series package to slot underneath the twin-turbo BMW 135i range. Meanwhile, the new 135i will also get the option of a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Other changes to the new model include a new headlight and front fascia design with a new grille and front splitter, as well as new tail lights. BMW has also introduced its new 'air curtain' feature designed to maximise airflow around the front wheels. This claims to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve fuel efficiency.

The new car also gets a range of new 16in, 17in and 18in wheels and two new exterior colours, Vermillon Red and Marrakesh Brown.

We'll provide the Australian specifications and release date as soon as it comes to hand.
