2012 Mercedes-Benz A25 AMG planned

Mercedes-Benz is apparently working on producing a Mercedes-Benz A25 AMG version to rival the likes of the upcoming Audi RS3 and the BMW 1 Series M Coupe. The new model will be the smallest AMG version to ever hit the market.

According to British motoring publication Autocar, the A25 AMG will get an all-new, all-aluminium 2.0-litre turbocharged engine said to output as much as 240kW. It will also be coupled to a Haldex all-wheel drive system and use a new six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox to help the little pocket rocket sprint from 0-100km/h in around five seconds.

The A25 AMG model will use also use the next-generation A-Class MFA (Modularen Frontantriebs-Architektur) platform which incorporates multiple sheets of metal sandwiched together to form the foundation of the chassis.

It's not expected to go on sale in Europe until the later half of 2012, but we'll be sure to keep an eye on this one to confirm official details.
