Around the tracks: A 93-year old grandpa is the star of his own YouTube channel

Plus, Motul launches a line of oils specially made for vintage and classic cars.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

93-year old grandpa is the star of his own YouTube channel

Whoever said you need to be young to enjoy video games? This 93-year old grandpa is proof that you can enjoy them at any age. He's taken it a step further and is the star of his own YouTube channel, with over 8500 subscribers that watch his virtual driving sessions.

It was lockdown that gave him the time and idea to do so, and with the help of his grandson he's created a number of videos. The 93-year old doesn't get to enjoy cars out in the real world, as he turned in his real licence seven years ago.

Motul launches line of oils for vintage cars including for BMW classics

French brand Motul has introduced a brand new line of lubricants, but this one is a little different as it's geared towards classic and vintage cars. The new Classic Line of Motul lubricants builds upon the booming market of collector cars which has increased year-on-year.

The company claims that these particular lubricants feature an additive package, with high-zinc (ZDDP) and molybdenum (moly) for reduced friction and increased power.

Garage 54 produces one of its craziest conversions yet!

These guys have done some pretty cool conversions before, but this is a must-watch video. After cutting the driver’s side off one Lada, and the passenger side off another, they played around with the mechanicals and welded them together.

The result? An extra-wide Lada that needs two drivers to steer!

Speaking of conversions... how about this for your weekend away?!

It may not look like the most stylish Volkswagen you've ever seen, but who doesn't love seeing a Beetle on the road? In the 1970s, a company in California began producing a conversion kit called the 'Super Bugger', which allowed Beetle owners to convert their Bug into a camper.

The 'kit' basically consists of slamming a camper van into the back of a Beetle. The engine is a 1.6-litre flat-four engine, sourced from a 1973 Super Beetle, paired with a four-speed manual transmission.

It was recently sold in America for US$19,800 (AU$25,400).

Finally, how's this for a livery? We've seen it before... but not on a Formula One car

This weekend Formula One returns to Monaco for the first time since 2019. McLaren is present in a big way, with its cars sporting the iconic Gulf livery. It's also the first time the livery has been displayed on a F1 car.

The McLaren-Gulf link goes back to the late 1960s, when the two companies worked together in Can-Am and F1.

Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris both have unique helmet designs and old-school race goggles to match.
