2012 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG winter spy shots

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG was recently caught undergoing some winter testing in Arjeplog, Sweden. Mercedes-Benz has already put the prototype through its paces around the Nurburgring, now the company is making sure everything can handle the extreme cold.

It is still covered in plenty of camouflaging though, with a big fibre-glass bonnet shield and a similar arrangement on the boot to disorient onlookers.

Although the name suggests otherwise, the new SL63 will feature the new 5.5-litre twin turbo V8 and not the old 6.2-litre.

From the side we can see the new Merc will feature a huge braking package, including six-piston calipers and cross-drilled discs front and rear.

The back of the car doesn't look as aggressive as the AMGs we've come used to.

On this test car Mercedes-Benz has done a great job of hiding the usual quad-exhaust pipe setup though. The road-going version is likely to offer a more flamboyant arrangement.

Power on offer is said to be around the 426kW mark whilst torque will be at around 900Nm. This will be sent through a Mercedes-Benz seven-speed MCT Speedshift automatic gearbox.

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG is expected to debut some time in 2012, but we'll bring you more details as they come.
