Ford America might be struggling in every sense of the word, but the blue oval is hard at work showcasing its intention to build a large luxury crossover with the Lincoln MKT concept.
Although the fancy and expensive interior will not see the light of day in a production vehicle, the car's exterior design has a good chance of making the cut.
"It's as realistic as any," says Peter Horbury, Ford's North American design director.
Although Ford executives are tight-lipped about a production version, Ford had already announced back in early 2007 that it would build a seven-passenger Lincoln crossover.
The MKT is based on the 2009 Ford Flex crossover and could go into production in 2009.
The MKT concept would be a great competitor to the recently released Mazda CX-9. The car is powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 engine using Ford's new EcoBoost technology. It produces 309kW and 542 Nm of torque
