Video: GMC Hummer EV shown rock crawling and ‘crab walking’

It remains unclear when – or if – the zero-emission behemoth will make its way to Australian showrooms.

The upcoming 2022 GMC Hummer EV has been shown crawling over rocks, sliding on dirt, and performing its signature four-wheel steering ‘crab walk’ in a new video published by manufacturer GMC.

Filmed in Utah and Arizona, the promotional clip purports to show the all-electric off-roader's impressive all-terrain capabilities – according to GMC, the SUV variant offers 400mm of ground clearance (with ‘Extract’ mode engaged), an approach angle of 49.7 degrees, a departure angle of 38.4 degrees, and a maximum wading depth of 800mm.

The Hummer EV SUV was unveiled earlier this year, however it remains unclear when – or even if – the vehicle will appear in Australian showrooms.

Also available as a pick-up truck, both variants are underpinned by an identical skateboard chassis and drivetrain.

In range-topping pick-up guise, GMC claims the three motors (two at the rear and one on the front axle) will put out a combined 735kW/2033Nm, allowing the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in just 3.0 seconds.

A mammoth lithium-ion battery pack allows the Hummer EV pick-up to travel 560km in between charges on the WLTP cycle.

Power in the SUV maxes out at 619kW, from dual electric motors and a 20-module batter pack.
