Pricing and specifications for the 2021 Kia Cerato (Model Year 2022) have been confirmed, ahead of its Australian launch commencing in the coming days.

UPDATE, 11 June 2021: The entire Kia Cerato range is on sale now. Click here to read our full launch review.

Kia's updated small hatch and sedan – which brings revised exterior styling, new technologies, and the brand's new logo – will launch locally first in a choice of three 2.0-litre variants (S, Sport and Sport+), priced from $25,990 drive-away, with the first Cerato models to reach dealers in the coming days.

The flagship, sport-focused GT will reach dealers in mid-June – equipped with a sunroof for the first time – priced from $36,990 drive-away.

While a selection of new safety technologies are available across the range, buyers of entry-level S and Sport variants still need to pay extra for advanced active safety features such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, as part of a $1000 (before on-road costs) Safety Pack.

Prices have risen slightly for Model Year 2022, with increases of $500 to $1000 – though the price of entry has risen by $2500 (drive-away), thanks to the deletion of the previously-available manual transmission.

As per the outgoing range, prices of equivalent hatch and sedan models are identical.

Opening the range is the Cerato S, priced from $25,990 drive-away in standard form, or $27,490 drive-away with the Safety Pack equipped.

Standard equipment includes 16-inch steel wheels, an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless and wired Android Auto, a 4.2-inch driver information display (new for 2021 on the S), manual air conditioning (though now with rear air vents), a six-speaker sound system, and a six-way manually-adjustable driver's seat.

There's also front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines, halogen headlights, LED daytime-running lights, a folding key, and LED daytime-running lights.

Standard safety features include autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, driver attention monitoring, rear-seat alert, a speed limited, and manual cruise control.

Opting for the $1000 Safety Pack adds an upgraded AEB system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, power-folding mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, larger rear brake discs (for better stopping performance), and an electric parking brake.

Under the bonnet is a carry-over 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 112kW and 192Nm to the front wheels through a conventional six-speed automatic transmission – rather than the CVT automatic fitted to the mechanically-similar Kia Seltos small SUV.

A six-speed manual is no longer available. Claimed fuel consumption is rated at 7.4L/100km on the combined cycle.

Stepping up to the Cerato Sport – priced from $27,990 or $29,490 drive-away, without or with the Safety Pack respectively – adds restyled 17-inch alloy wheels, a new-for-2021 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with satellite navigation (with live traffic), unique 'sport' cloth seat trim, DAB digital radio, and illuminated vanity mirrors.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector offered in the Safety Pack are standard on the Sport, though the rest of the optional package's contents remain available for an additional $1000 before on-road costs (or $1500 drive-away).

Sitting atop the 2.0-litre line-up is the Sport+, priced from $31,690 drive-away, as the contents of the Safety Pack (and more) are included as standard.

Additional features over the Sport include the upgraded AEB system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, leather upholstery, front seat heating, dual-zone climate control, and blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert systems capable of detecting and braking for obstacles, rather than just detection, as included in the Safety Pack.

There's also keyless entry, push-button start, an electric parking brake, auto defog system, 'aeroblade' windscreen wipers, an electro-chromic rear-view mirror, and larger rear brakes.

Due to reach showrooms in mid-June 2021, the flagship GT (priced from $35,290 before on-road costs) features a carry-over 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 150kW and 265Nm to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission only.

Over the Sport+, the GT adds a sunroof for the first time, plus 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, multi-link independent rear suspension, LED headlights and tail-lights, red exterior accents, dual exhaust tips, front-seat ventilation, leather sports seats with red piping and contrast stitching, and a GT-branded steering wheel and gear selector.

The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster available overseas won't be available in Australia.

The entire 2021 Kia Cerato hatch and sedan ranges are on sale now.
