Caterham to unveil second lightweight sports car in January

Specialist lightweight sports car manufacturer Caterham is set to expand its range with a second entirely new model.

Set to be unveiled on January 13 at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, England, Caterham says the top-secret model will mark “the beginning of a new dawn for the company”.

There is no word on whether the new vehicle will maintain the open-top structure of the classic Lotus-derived Caterham Seven, but according to the British manufacturer it will “remain true to the lightweight, minimalist DNA” of its famous sibling

The new vehicle will be built alongside the Seven and will be powered by the next-generation Caterham Motorsport engine.

The Caterham Seven is currently sold in Australia with a starting price of $64,900 for the Roadsport SV 120. The Seven Superlight SV R300 – which has a total weight of just 540kg – is one of the fastest cars from 0-100km (4.5 seconds) available in Australia for less than $100,000.
