2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake officially revealed, Australian launch by October

Korean brand's new mid-size wagon unveiled in full, with sporty styling and improved practicality.

The 2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake has been officially unveiled, ahead of its Australian launch in the third quarter of 2021 (July to September inclusive).

Teased earlier this week, the G70 Shooting Brake has been "designed with European customers in mind", as Genesis' rival to the BMW 3 Series Touring, Mercedes-Benz C-Class wagon and Audi A4 Avant.

Based on the G70 sedan, the wagon differentiates itself from its four-door sibling through a new rear end, featuring a longer wagon roof, sloping tailgate design, and a unique C-pillar graphic.

Genesis' corporate twin-bar tail-lights continue into the tailgate, while a sporty 'floating' roof spoiler sits above the rear window.

The Shooting Brake, unsurprisingly, benefits from the facelifted G70 sedan's updated front end design, featuring the Korean luxury brand's 'crest' grille, and twin-bar headlights. Large 19-inch alloy wheels fill the arches on the V6 model pictured.

Measuring 4685mm long, 1850mm wide and 1400mm high, riding on a 2835mm wheelbase, the wagon offers identical exterior dimensions to the existing sedan, though its longer roof allows for 40 per cent more boot space, for a total of around 462 litres.

The rear seats fold in a 40:20:40 split, while the tailgate hinges have been moved "forward" to optimise boot space.

Inside the cabin, the sedan's 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and fully-digital instrument cluster are fitted.

Details of the G70 Shooting Brake's powertrain have yet to be confirmed, however the badging worn by the grey car pictured indicates a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and all-wheel drive will be available in Europe.

It's highly likely Australian buyers will be offered a choice of two engines, both shared with the 2021 sedan: a 179kW 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder (down versus overseas models' 185-187kW), and a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6, developing either 272kW or 274kW, the latter achieved with the optional sports exhaust.

Both engines will drive the rear wheels through eight-speed automatic transmissions.

More details on the 2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake are expected in the coming weeks, ahead of its Australian launch between July and September 2021.
