2012 Honda Civic Concept sketch released

Honda has just released a sketch of the upcoming 2012 Honda Civic Concept. It will be the ninth-generation Honda Civic, featuring modern touches like LED daytime running lights and a smooth swooping body.

The car's design retains the current short rear-overhang hatchback shape. The front of the car is changed completely though incorporating a much more aggressive all-new grille and front fascia layout, similar to the current Type R sports version. There's also a fresh front bumper bearing a wider grin and larger air intakes.

Official technical specifications on the new model are yet to be released, although reports say the new model will be available with a number of petrol engine options as well as a diesel option. There's also word of a new dual-clutch automatic gearbox to come out with the new model, a gearbox design that is said to be shared with some of Honda's motorcycles.

The concept will be unveiled in the flesh at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January next year. It will then go on sale in international markets during the second half of 2011.
