2021 Alpina B8 Gran Coupe price and specs: 457kW four-door undercuts BMW M8 Competition on price

Alpina's tuned 8 Series Gran Coupe here in July, with prices from $322,900 before on-road costs.

  • 2021 Alpina B8 Gran Coupe pricing and specification
  • Germany's Alpina tunes BMW 8 Series to 457kW and 800Nm
  • Alpina-specific styling inside and out, with unique paint colours on offer
  • Priced from $322,900 before on-road costs

Australian buyers interested in the 2021 BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe will have a new option to consider come July 2021: the 2021 Alpina B8 Gran Coupe.

Priced from $322,900 before on-road costs, the B8 Gran Coupe sees BMW's flagship 8 Series Gran Coupe fettled by German tuning house Alpina, with the 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8 under the bonnet now developing 457kW and 800Nm – up 67kW/50Nm over the $277,900 BMW M850i xDrive, but down 3kW (and up 50Nm) over the $354,900 BMW M8 Competition.

Drive is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, for a 3.4-second 0-100km/h sprint time and a 324km/h top speed.

Stiffer Eibach springs (with comfort-enhancing hydro mounts), Bilstein dampers and a reinforced front sway bar combine to suspend 20-spoke, 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres, and hiding 395mm front and 398mm rear Brembo performance brakes (with a "high-performance" system available as an option).

Rear-wheel steering allows up to 2.3 degrees of movement, while a handful of drive modes are available, including an Alpina-exclusive Comfort+ setting.

Unique bumpers, rear lip spoiler and badging differentiate the Alpina B8 from the 'standard' BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, while inside the cabin highlights include new door sills, trim options, a crystal glass gear selector and Alpina's signature wheel-mounted gear shift buttons, as opposed to traditional paddle shifters.

Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, four-zone automatic climate control, ambient cabin lighting, wireless phone charging, power-adjustable, heated and ventilated front sports seats, heated rear seats, folding exterior mirrors, a 16-speaker Harman/Kardon premium sound system, and Walnut Anthracite trim inlays.

There's also DAB+ digital radio, laser headlights, illuminated door sills, a panoramic sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring and a suite of driver assistance aids, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, night vision and automatic parking.

Available options include a luggage compartment mat, 21-inch 'Classic' alloy wheels, Merino or Lavalina leather upholstery, CNC-milled aluminium shift paddles, a Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system, an inbuilt 'BMW Drive Recorder' dashcam function, a carbon-fibre roof (though at the expense of the panoramic sunroof), and black exterior trim.

Exterior colours on offer include unique Alpina Blue and Alpina Green metallic shades, plus Alpine White, Carbon Black Metallic, Black Sapphire Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, Sunset Orange Metallic, Bluestone Metallic, Barcelona Blue Metallic, and an array of BMW Individual cost-option hues.

The 2021 Alpina B8 Gran Coupe will go on sale in Australia in July 2021. While a network of six BMW dealers sell Alpina vehicles across the country, it's worth noting Alpina Australia is a separate business entity not directly related to BMW's Australian arm.
