How a Geelong company is making the highest-revving V12 Ferrari road car even faster
Australian brand now a 'technology partner' to one of Italy's most prestigious supercar marques.
Ferrari has named Australian brand Carbon Revolution a "technology partner" in the development of its latest pair of 'special series' supercars.
Known as the 812 Competizione and Competizione A, the two most powerful road-going V12 Ferrari models ever are offered with 100 per cent carbon-fibre wheels manufactured by Carbon Revolution's facility in Geelong, Victoria.
It's also the first time a V12 Ferrari has worn carbon-fibre wheels, which save a total of 3.7kg versus regular forged aluminium wheels.
Engineering Director at Carbon Revolution, Dr Ash Denmead, said “Our engineering team was challenged by Ferrari to develop an incredibly lightweight wheel that could meet the extreme load requirements of the 812 Competizione”.
“The ability to deliver a wheel of such low weight that can handle the combination of aerodynamic downforce and engine performance of this car is truly a great engineering feat,” Denmead added.
Carbon Revolution has provided carbon-fibre wheels to eight other Ferrari models since 2016, along with an array of other manufacturers including Ford.
According to research firm Global Market Insights, the carbon wheel market is expected to surpass US$450 million (AU$579 million) by 2026.
