The 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA range has been expanded with the addition of two new all-wheel-drive variants – EQA 300 4Matic and EQA 350 4Matic – offering more power, longer driving ranges, and all-paw traction.
However, only the more potent EQA 350 4Matic will come to Australia – with a local launch set to occur by the end of 2021 – with Mercedes-Benz Australia electing to leave the EQA 300 to European buyers only for now.
Powering the EQA 350 4Matic is a pair of electric motors, mated with a 66.5kWh lithium-ion battery to develop 215kW and 520Nm – a substantial over the sole 140kW375Nm e-motor powering the existing EQA 250, due in Australia in June 2021.
Mercedes-Benz claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of six seconds flat, while driving range on Europe's WLTP cycle is rated at up to 432km, or 493km on the more lenient NEDC test) – a mild increase over the 250's 426km WLTP and 486km NEDC claims.
The 350 4Matic retains the EQA 250's 100kW DC charging capability, with its carry-over battery allowing an identical 10 to 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, the EQA 300 4Matic scores the same 66.5kWh battery pack and 100kW DC charging support, but features detuned electric motors developing 168kW and 390Nm. The 0-100km/h sprint increases to 7.7 seconds, while WLTP driving range drops to 426km in its most efficient guise.
A fourth variant with a "particularly long range" will follow in 2022, with a WLTP figure expected in excess of 500km.
Prices in Germany start from €53,538 (AU$83,200) and €56,216 (AU$87,400) for the EQA 300 and 350 respectively before subsidies are included – a notable increase over the 250's €47,541 (AU$73,900) sticker.
In Australia, the EQA 250 is priced from $76,800 before on-road costs – and while local pricing and specifications won't be confirmed until closer to launch, expect prices for the EQA 350 4Matic to kick off above $90,000 before on-road costs Down Under.
Available features on the EQA 250 include dual 10.25-inch interior screens with smartphone mirroring and satellite navigation, 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels, leather trim, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and the optional AMG Line sports exterior package.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA 350 4Matic will go on sale in Australia by the end of 2021. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest.
