2019-2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter recalled with transmission software bug
The gear recognition function may malfunction preventing the reverse light from turning on, according to the manufacturer.
Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled 11 examples of its Sprinter van, citing a potential fault with the reversing lights.
The affected vehicles were sold between 21 September 2018 and 4 January 2021 (Model Years 2019-2021).
The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says: “The gear recognition function in the transmission may not function as intended in some vehicles.
“This may cause the reversing lamp to stop working until the next ignition change, or the next engine start,” the notice continued.
“Loss of reverse lights may reduce the visibility of the vehicle and provide no indication that the vehicle is reversing, increasing the risk of an accident leading to serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or pedestrians.”
