2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake spied with minimal camouflage, reveal imminent – UPDATE

Genesis' mid-size wagon drops disguise, ahead of a full debut in the coming months.

UPDATE, 6 May 2021, 9:40am: New images of the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake have surfaced, courtesy of AutoHerald, providing a clearer look at the wagon's front and rear ends.

While the new vehicle spotted wears the same camouflage-like wrap as the original pictured below, its dual oval exhaust design confirms it's powered by the larger 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 engine.

Our original story continues unchanged below.

6 May 2021: The 2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake wagon has been spotted with minimal camouflage, ahead of a full reveal in the coming weeks or months.

Photos published on Bobaedream (via Autospyshow the G70 Shooting Brake wearing nothing but a stylised camouflage wrap, providing our first near-undisguised look at the Genesis wagon's sloping C-pillar graphic, glasshouse design and twin-bar tail-light shape.

A sporty roof spoiler with two aero-focused cutouts sits at the top of the tailgate, while the wagon's new rear-end has seen the licence plate move down to the rear bumper (from the sedan's placement on the boot lid).

Trainspotters will note the Shooting Brake spied here on a transport truck wears a similar wrap to that used by Genesis to tease the GV70 mid-size SUV late last year, around one month before its global unveiling.

Such timing would suggest we could get our first official undisguised look at the new mid-size wagon as early as June – following an initial preview a few weeks earlier – though given the Hyundai luxury brand has yet to confirm the model for production globally, exact reveal timing remains hard to pin down.

Few firm details of the G70 Shooting Brake have been confirmed, however it is all but certain to share its interior and engine range with the G70 sedan on which it's based.

The dual exhaust tip design fitted to the pre-production example spied suggests it's powered by the sedan's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 185kW and 353Nm to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

A 3.3-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 should also be offered, developing 274kW and 510Nm with a bi-modal sports exhaust (with oval-shaped dual tips) fitted.

The 2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake should be unveiled in full in the coming months, though industry sources suggest we could get our first glimpse at the new model without camouflage within the next one or two weeks.

CarAdvice understands Genesis' local arm is actively evaluating the G70 Shooting Brake for an Australian launch, with right-hand drive production likely given the related G70 sedan is already on sale in Australia.
